Press & Go!
This past New York Fashion Week was my first exposure to Sobe Organics. It’s a “do-it-yourself” 100% real hair extension line – the very first on the market! After years of wearing damaging extensions, founders Leslie Namad and Mila Barr created a line they say is not only permanent – it helps natural hair regain strength! The extension line uses tape to adhere locks…not braiding, weaving, bonding or some of the other methods. Curious and excited, I had to know more! Here is my interview with Leslie Namad.
KS: I’ve never heard of a no-heat for application! I’m most impressed. What inspired you to create such an application method? Please explain how the hair stays adhered without damage.
LN: “The hair is adhered with a polyurethane tape that is nontoxic. It is a medical grade formulation used for wound closure to be exact. It does not damage skin or hair.”
KS: I notice there’s a big emphasis on “organics.” Why is it so important to you for the line to include natural products?
LN: “I have always used exotic oils such as balbao, aargan, and many others while wearing hair extensions because you need to replenish them with naturals oils. Regular hair obtains its oils from the sebum of the scalp. Hair extensions will never get these oils so the oils must be replenish. Through wearing hair extensions I noticed these oils actually would remove my attachments. This led to me developing the organic removal system. There is no need for a toxic removal system unless one is impatient. It takes about 10 more minutes with this system but saves your hair.”
KS: Please tell me about your medical background. Who better to create cosmeceuticals?
LN: “My partner and I are registered nurses working in the surgical and cancer field for over 15 years. With our vast knowledge of how compounds work with the body it was a natural progression for us to form our own hair care line.”
