Happy Saturday Loves!
Have you ever been to a Sip N’ See? It’s a southern tradition of having a casual baby shower after the baby is born instead of before. Folks “sip” their cocktails and “see” the baby – ha! Since Ralph and I already hosted our clouds and cherub themed baby shower in DC before Jack was born we thought it’d be cute to throw a little impromptu party in Petersburg, Virginia. It was like a mini-reunion with my aunts and cousins. Jack got tons of hugs and kisses! Even at this young age that boy ate up the attention – lol! Oh and of course we took tons of family selfies. Baby liked that, too.
It was still warm out, so I decided to do an ice cream social twist for our Sip N’ See. I made my late grandmother’s favorite punch. Her go to party drink was always shebert with ginger ale. Albeit simple the recipe never disappoints and guests always love the fizz on top! Continuing the theme, I set out fun ice cream flavors like pistachio with chocolate, cotton candy and classic vanilla bean. Folks were able to sprinkle almonds and fresh berries on the ice cream; and their cocktails. My fam enjoyed the mimosa-ish bar by adding sparkling wine to varying fruit lemonades.
The coconut cake was made with love by Buttermilk Bakeshop, which is located in the old town portion of Petersburg. I think it’s important to support local businesses. Plus, her style leans towards classic desserts. However, for décor I always hit my girl Samantha in Ontario, Canada who runs Topper and Twine. She designs personalized cloud toppers. I loved how the gold lettering added a special touch and tied in with Jack’s baby shower/nursery theme.
As fun as it was to put together this last minute, I was even more touched by my family dropping everything to meet Jack including my Aunt Pearl. At 84 years old she’s the eldest on my father’s side of the family. Jack felt completely safe and happy on her lap. Perhaps, he sensed the years of mothering. You’ll see the cute red head in the very last photo below. Aunt Pearl isn’t doing too well today. She’s in the hospital. We are all praying. This further proves to me the importance of spending time with loved ones. It doesn’t have to be super advanced notice to have something special.
I’m a media strategist, fashion fan and whimsical event planner. For years, I’ve been “reporting” from fashion shows and fabulous events to my loved one out of pure joy. Unbeknowest to me in February 2012 my sister started kristysamone.com with photos and letters I’d sent her from New York Fashion Week. She said, “I think you need a blog!” LOL! I’ve been trying keep us with this and life ever since:) Thanks so much for reading!View all KristySamone posts.
