I have fond prom memories…of course, the dress was a mini with lace and sequins. I would squeeze into it now if I could:)
The prom, short for promenade (or introduction of parading guests at a party) started as coed banquets that American universities put on during the 19th century. When folks had post-war money in the 50’s, this event became a fancier tradition held at country clubs and hotels. The dress code would instruct teens to “Wear Your Sunday Best.” Speaking of the best, 2012’s prom trend report is a mixed bag of one-shoulder, strapless, hi-lo, prints, bright colors and “bling” looks. It’s reflective of the different eras in style now.
