Happy Wednesday my loves!
What comes to mind when you think of “femininism?” Thoughts on this inspired Prabal Gurung’s RTW Spring/Summer 17 collection, which he calls feminine with a bite.
Motivated by his mother’s fight against male chauvinism (from the show notes: “To my mother, who always wanted to change the idea that the higher you go, the fewer women there are”) and activist Gloria Steinem’s book “My Life on the Road,” his latest line is as far away from men’s clothing as one can get (with the exception of a breathtaking black suit).
Take a look at some of the ladylike dreams that floated down the runway during New York Fashion Week. Gurung’s garments are lightweight, fluid, sensuous and soft. Check out the super high slits, shoulder baring looks, assymmetrical cuts and bold colors. Speaking of which, he was also inspired by Tracey Emin’s neons, Taryn Simon’s photos and William Kentridge’s paintings.
Gurung said this collection represents modern feminism.
I’m a media strategist, fashion fan and whimsical event planner. For years, I’ve been “reporting” from fashion shows and fabulous events to my loved one out of pure joy. Unbeknowest to me in February 2012 my sister started kristysamone.com with photos and letters I’d sent her from New York Fashion Week. She said, “I think you need a blog!” LOL! I’ve been trying keep us with this and life ever since:) Thanks so much for reading!View all KristySamone posts.
