Nolcha Fashion Week: Seckin Ilker & Charlyn Castro-Rojas

By KristySamone — February 22, 2012

I paid a visit to Nolcha Fashion Week, which runs alongside Mercedes Benz NYC Fashion Week, to see what’s up with the new-new.  If you haven’t heard about Nolcha, it’s the leading award winning event for independent fashion designers to showcase their collections: what Cannes is to films, this is to dresses! Nolcha does an amazing job of spotlighting emerging talents.

One of my highlights was meeting Turkish designer, Seckin Ilker, whose wedding gown collection was a sweet as she was. Made of silk, taffeta, organdy and French lace, her bridal and evening line, focused emotions behind “innocence” and “purity.” While watching her models glide down the runway, I text a good friend a pic of the candy. Her response, “, you found my gown.” Seckin will be opening stores in New York, Paris, Riyadh, Jeddah and Jakarta over the next year. Watch out Vera Wang!

Equally amazing, was the collection of Puerto Rican designer, Charlyn Castro-Rojas, who I ran into at the Nolcha fashion bloggers brunch.“Girl, I LOVE your bracelets!” I squealed as she leaned across to grab something. “Ooh!” she smiled with a pose, “I designed them. I’m one of the designers presenting at Nolcha.”

Immediately, I had to snap a pic to share the hotness with you guys. The jewelry is amazing, but of course, she doesn’t stop there. Her garments focus on custom couture. Her newest is properly named… “The Presence.” Check her line out at http://www.castro-rojas.com/

Unbeknowest to me in February 2012 my sister started kristysamone.com with photos and letters I'd sent her from New York Fashion Week. She said, "I think you need a blog!" LOL! I've been trying keep us with this and life ever since:) Thanks so much for reading!
