Hello Loves! I remember it very well. It was a cold New York Fashion Week morning back in 2008. Mom and I had been invited to the Jason Wu show by my cousin Antwan who was working as a makeup artist. We had never heard of Jason Wu, but the type of folks waiting for his collection to hit the runway should have been an indication that he was soon to be an household name. We were standing – did not have a seat – but we didn’t feel so bad when André Leon Talley, Vogue Magazine’s editor-at-large, slid in. He stood in front of mom, cracked a few jokes with her, and then the show began. I whispered, “MOM! OMG! That’s André Leon Talley!” Later I learned that it was Talley who introduced Senator Barak Obama’s wife Michelle Obama to Jason Wu later that year. Mrs. Obama bought four dresses wearing one for her famous interview with Barbara Walters. Many say that’s the moment Wu blew up! The First Lady would later be a show stopper wearing his breathtaking one strap gown to the 2009 inauguration ball. The rest his history. I tried to get into the Jason Wu show the following year and let me tell you, it was impossible and jam packed! LOL! With that I’d like to share with you some of Wu’s pieces from his summer 2014 collection out right now. A nod to the 90’s, the line explores ease and femininity. Think “easy elegance.” I’m inspired to slick my hair back and slide in a slip dress this weekend! Also, I’m inspired by Wu’s story. You can do anything you set your mind to. How about you?
Note: Congrats again to Jason Wu! He has teamed up with Lancome for a pre-fall makeup collection. I can’t wait to check it out!
