On Monday I attended the most wonderful presentation for Mauricio Alpizar. Held at New York’s Society of Illustrators, it was probably one of the more interesting locations that I’ve visited this fashion week. When I asked Mauricio what his inspiration was for such a gorgeous collection… his answer was a question. Basically – why was everyone wearing black? Ha! A good question at that. His line is all about vivid color with shapes from the 1920’s. Mauricio stressed words like “European” and “antique,” which denotes classic glamour. The models were adorned with jewelry by Siman Tu who told me, “I think design is a gift from God. My inspiration is Mother Nature. The other side is 1920’s.” The flawless makeup hints to the looks of spring 2013. et ready girls – everything is going to match. We’re going retro! Lips and nails should all be the same, that’s according to Kim Roxie, the cosmetics genius behind LAMIK Beauty- which is sold at macys.com. On the models were LAMIK Beauty’s Kudos lipstick set by a bit of status lip gloss on top, Sugar rim eyeshadow to brush in the brow (which gave a cool effect), black mascara and an exaggerated cat eye – which I’ve seen all over the runways this week. Trend alert! The hair, an artful mix of retro with a futuristic twist , was by NYC’s Platinum Salon. The lead on hair told me,”My inspiration was from the designer…we were inspired by Frida Kahlo.” He explained there were five different intricate looks with most involving fabric embedded in the hair. Magnificent! I’ll post more pics from the presentation in the coming days! www.mauricioalpizar.com.au/
PS: The Society of Illustrators was started in 1901 to promote the illustration of art and to hold exhibitions from time to time. I believe the original nine artists would’ve been proud of the this event. Shout out to Kelly and Michael from Fashion Art Gallery for putting on yet another amazing event with a talent designer, fascinating venue and interesting guests!

I'm a media strategist, fashion fan and whimsical event planner. For years, I've been "reporting" from fashion shows and fabulous events to my loved one out of pure joy. Unbeknowest to me in February 2012 my sister started kristysamone.com with photos and letters I'd sent her from New York Fashion Week. She said, "I think you need a blog!" LOL! I've been trying keep us with this and life ever since:) Thanks so much for reading!View all KristySamone posts.
