Luxe, Glamour and Michael Bastian
By KristySamone — March 02, 2012
Everyone from Kanye West to Lebron James to menswear fans such as Leeann Rimes have sported the dapper “Michael Bastian” line. I eagerly look forward to each season of Michael Bastian to see what’s the inspiration behind the newest “luxe prep” collection. Bastian’s latest show was titled, “The Extra Man” and it did not disappoint. You might ask what is an “Extra Man?” He’s a “storied” lifelong bachelor from polite society who is well-groomed, self-styled, and a well-seasoned escort for women with lots of dough. At the show we were given a reprinted New York Times
article from 1974 where the top 30 in the city were listed (including famous men such as Bill Blass). I knew it was going to be an excellent production! The show was filled with classic throwbacks: pinstriped suites, cardigans, collared plaids and ooh…men with varying hairstyles and facial hairs. Lets not forget the floral boutonnieres! One of my highlights was watching a too cool for school model walk a pooch (Miles) down the runway with matching quilted jackets! I couldn’t help but coo and get the joke at the same time. The Extra Man is known as “the escort or WALKER.” Great production and fine men, it ranked as one of my favorite shows during New York Fashion Week in February.
I’m a media strategist, fashion fan and whimsical event planner. For years, I’ve been “reporting” from fashion shows and fabulous events to my loved one out of pure joy. Unbeknowest to me in February 2012 my sister started kristysamone.com with photos and letters I’d sent her from New York Fashion Week. She said, “I think you need a blog!” LOL! I’ve been trying keep us with this and life ever since:) Thanks so much for reading!
