Brunch in Historic Old Town

By KristySamone — August 06, 2012
A blogger’s brunch…
I’m a fan of brunch. It is perhaps my favorite meal. I find that I think better when I eat, so this is also my favorite time to blog.:) On my Saturdays, I love to eat a yummy combination of breakfast and dinner goodies while typing away at Bittersweet Catering Cafe & Bakery. It’s located in historic Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, which was originally laid out back in 1749. The customer service makes me feel like I’m at a neighbor’s home for breakfast. In fact, my visits remind me of that show “Cheers” where everybody knows your name. The owner, Jody Manor, told me part of Bittersweet’s success is due to consistency – like its retention of the same staff. Happy staff = Happy customers:)
Typically, I get hazelnut coffee accompanied by fresh fruit, mac n’ cheese and oatmeal with brown sugar/raisins. I know it sounds like a crazy mix, but it gives me the fuel for my afternoon workout. Keep in mind, there’s a full food bar, tasty sandwiches and all sorts of items not found at most cafes like the jasmine tea fresh ginger ale I enjoyed a few days ago. Oh! I can’t forget my “to go” treats! Bittersweet is known to have a-mazing cupcakes with high quality ingredients like real butter and perfect icing…beyond yum…not too sweet but sweet enough. I was sure to pick up one for my two-year-old nephew (he’s still getting used to the idea of having a newborn sibling, so I try to make him feel special) and since Bittersweet even has “pup cakes,” Sparta gets a cake with a bone!
These little decompressing moments make me happy: great food and a pleasant atmosphere to write…all of this creates fond weekend memories! http://www.bittersweetcatering.com/index.php

I've been trying keep us with this and life ever since:) Thanks so much for reading!
