Happy Friday Fashion Femme Fatales! I’m thrilled to share with you a beautiful collection presented at the Blanc de Chine flagship store at 673 Fifth Avenue during last month’s NYFW. Blanc de Chine’s Fall / Winter 2013 collection focused on the ancient city of Dunhuang, China. Let me tell you a little bit about Dunhuang and why it was so inspirational. An oasis in the Goci desert along the infamous Silk Road, the most renowned feature of this area is known as the “Caves of the Thousand Buddhas.” Imagine over 492 caves containing rich murals and sculptures including ancient Sanskrit scriptures, Chinese imperial umbrellas, and Buddhist wall paintings. The women’s collection was based on “the flying Apsaras” – the female spirit of the clouds and waters and the symbol of Dunhuang art. Thus, the women’s line is light, soft, flowing – as if flying. The men’s collection was inspired by the robes in the Tang Dynasty. Mirroring the women, the guy’s line highlights the colors of green, turquoise, brown, and ox blood. These hues will definitely be everywhere this winter. Please check out my report on 2013 color trends.

I'm a media strategist, fashion fan and whimsical event planner. For years, I've been "reporting" from fashion shows and fabulous events to my loved one out of pure joy. Unbeknowest to me in February 2012 my sister started kristysamone.com with photos and letters I'd sent her from New York Fashion Week. She said, "I think you need a blog!" LOL! I've been trying keep us with this and life ever since:) Thanks so much for reading!View all KristySamone posts.
